Song backstory:

One of my favorite synthesizers of the 1980s was the Roland JX-8P. It was a perfect blend of digital control of a beefy analog synthesizer. It was the staple of many of my songs and demos during that time.

I had just reprogrammed the "Orchestra" preset to be even more expressive with the touch-sensitive keyboard.

"Fields of Wheat" was a 1-take improvisation.

If my tape recorder hadn't been recording...oh, well.

In the early 2000s, a friend of mine (Dwaynne L.) borrowed my JX-8P for a recording session and, a couple of weeks later, returned an empty keyboard case. He claimed that it had been stolen from his car, but the PAWN SHOP ITEM TICKET on the bottom of the case said otherwise.

There is a special place in hell for those who mess with other people's gear!
