Song Backstory:

Adding music to poetry is a very interesting concept: How to present the poem in a musical style that captures the essence of the poem itself?

One of my friend Riina's poems, "THE RED DRAGON: The Final Battle", from her book of poetry, Spirit Verses, is about the people stepping up to fight the suppression that is all around. "The Red Dragon" motif, as in Welsh culture, symbolizes the people. It is a message that is as applicable today as it was in the 9th century, even more so.

The arrangement leans Celtic, with a Scottish pipe-and-drum edge. That sound was chosen because it still does what the lyric asks: pull a people out of pity and onto their feet.

Time to fight or drown in pity...

Lyrics:

[Verse 1]
You’re on the crossroads
With a shield and a sword
Are you gonna fight or flight?

The damned down under
Are begging
Pity us, pity you
In the waves of pity, we drown

[Pre-Chorus]
But on the sword’s blade
A sunrise reflecting
Polishing its edges
For the final battle

[Chorus]
We fight with both hands
With our heads held high
An army behind us
And the glory of God
Will prevail
