Song Backstory:
In the 1990s, my studio at Disney (MouseWorks West) was a beta-test site for DigiDesign's new product, ProTools, the now industry-standard digital audio workstation (DAW).
I had just acquired a new Yamaha RY20 Rhythm Programmer (drum machine), and wanted to try it out. Besides drum kits, the machine also featured a fairly decent set of bass sounds. I programmed the entire baseline for the song directly into the machine by hand, then set ProTools to record. I then added several keyboard tracks using my trusty Roland JX-8P. The SynthBrass drove the song.
For this reimagination, I wanted to add a real brass and saxophone section, reminiscent of Chicago, but with an 80s-style OSCar bass line.
