Song Back-Story:
In 1982, I composed and recorded a piece of music for piano and synthesizer. It won me a Music Scholarship to UCSD in California. Unfortunately, my parents were totally against me going into music.
As life would have it, I ended up in the music industry on my own.
Ima is a look into the mind of my 17-year-old self.
This modern version of the piece replaces the synthesizer with a violin.
Ima means "now" in Japanese: 今
In particular, it means "present time", "in the moment".
The original piece was a one-take improvisation.
This reimagination is dedicated to my Uncle, Eugene Husaruk, who was the First Violinist and Concert Master of the Montreal Symphony (Orchestre symphonique de Montréal) for most of his life.
I always wanted to write a piece of music that we could play together.
It seems I already did.
