Song backstory:
It was 1994, and I was in the waiting area at Bruce Botnick's Digital Magnetics mastering studio in Hollywood.
Sitting conspicuously in plain sight was a KORG keyboard, a Yamaha drum machine, a Yamaha MIDI sequencer, and a Yamaha DAT recorder, all hooked up and waiting for a victim.
I dialed through the sound patches on the KORG and found a nice bass sound with a split keyboard and a synth lead sound on top, and popped a blank tape into the recorder.
I improvised a bass pattern while simultaneously playing the lead part.
Another record producer who was also waiting for a session witnessed me conjure up this piece of music. He was working on a soundtrack for an Indy Surf film, and thought that the piece I did would fit perfectly.
That's the magic of Hollywood.
Synchronicity.
