I began playing piano at age 3.
Was a professional musician at age 9.
Played seven concerts with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, under Calvin Simmons, conductor.
Played a July 4th concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and all over the West.
Professional "fixer" in the golden age of analog to digital synthesis.
Grammy®-nominated Record Producer.
What an amazing journey it has been.
The music on this site is mostly reimaginations of songs I composed and recorded during the 80s and 90s. There are a few new ones, too.
A little note about the album graphics:
I had the great privilege of working at xAI as a consultant, programming specialist, and tutor on Grok 3, Grok 3.5, and Grok 4. The ground-breaking work we did, especially in graphics and cinematography, is evident in the amazing results we see today. Thank you, Elon. You developed another palette for the artist to use.
The image on the home page is a real photo from my farm in New Zealand. I was on that side of the planet for 22 years.
Grok supplied the spaceship taking off.
Some day, some day...
Q: Where does the name "Dr Ziw" come from?
A: I was bestowed this moniker after debugging a problematic situation during a recording session that was preventing the session from proceeding.
The Solution: I plugged the main amp back into the wall, which had somehow gotten disconnected (Big-feet Larry, I'm looking at you 🤨).
The name is a play on "wizard" backward. "You're a backward wizard, Harry! 🪄"
The name stuck. And when problems arose that people could not figure out, I started getting calls for "the Dr."
I once got an emergency call from a VP at Disney who was in an important meeting. The 3/4" video player was not working.
I walked into the room, promptly turned the tape machine on, and left just as quickly.
I could hear the VP saying to his guests, "I hate it when he does that..."
